What better way to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee than with the Choir of Queen’s College, Oxford? Enjoy the glorious setting of the Fellows’ Garden at Queen’s, where the choir will sing madrigals, part-songs, and close-harmony arrangements while you enjoy a glass of wine or a soft drink, included in the ticket price.
The first half will be sung in the College’s beautiful baroque chapel, with repertoire that celebrates royalty. With music by Vaughan Williams, Finzi, Ireland and Berkeley from A Garland for the Queen (1953), first performed on the Eve of Coronation Day, as well as pieces written for other earlier Queens: Byrd's O Lord Make Thy Servant Elizabeth and Parry's I Was Glad.
Howells' Behold, O God our defender, premiered at Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953 and a firm favourite with the choir, closes the half.
